NO ACTION ON PAYMENTS OR CRYPTO BEFORE THE ELECTION

Labor has consistently said that payments structures, cryptocurrencies and the broader financial system are changing rapidly, and governments need to catch up and keep up.

We will closely and constructively examine what the Morrison-Joyce Government is proposing today, and the Reserve Bank in coming days, in that light.

We support, in principle, sensible measures that would protect consumers, ease pressures for small business, make the rules and regulations clear and support investment and innovation.

There have already been a number of important reviews in recent times making clear the need for changes to be made.

Nothing Josh Frydenberg says today will happen before the election.

This is just a commitment to consult on the Government’s last consultation.

After a wasted decade of missed opportunities in the economy, we need meaningful action here and not just more announcements about future announcements.
