ANSWERING THE CALL TO HELP KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE

An Albanese Labor Government will work with Logan City Council to install at least ten new CCTV security cameras across the community and help upgrade local infrastructure to increase the capacity of the local CCTV network.

I’ve listened to the concerns local residents and community groups have voiced to me directly, and I’m proud we’re taking these practical steps in response to help make our community safer and more secure.

The new cameras will add to a growing network of safety cameras across our community that are helping protects local residents, businesses and infrastructure.

I am proud to work with Logan City Council to deliver this $800,000 investment, which will help our dedicated local police and volunteers make our community an even better place to call home.

This funding commitment will help the Logan City Council install new CCTV cameras in the community and also help upgrade CCTV capacity which will further enhance the Logan Safety Camera Program (LSCP) which is monitored by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Logan City Council officers 24 hours a day.

Throughout 2021, the Queensland Police Service reported that the Logan Safety Camera Program Monitoring Room was utilised by officers both proactively and reactively approximately 22,635 times.

During the same time period, the QPS formally requested camera footage from Council on 425 occasions, and the Monitoring Room assisted to identify and track over 300 stolen vehicles.

The location of these new cameras will be agreed in consultation with the Queensland Police Service and Logan City Council to ensure maximum benefit to the community.

Only an Albanese Labor Government will deliver this important safety initiative for the Logan community.

A better future under Labor is a safer and more secure future for local people.
